New for 2027–28

The USA Hockey Development League

On October 7, 2026, USA Hockey confirmed 29 programs for the Development League's first season. Confirmed programs in this directory carry a "Development League 2027–28" badge. Two of the 29 are prep schools, listed in our Prep School directory:

Confirmed — USA Hockey rules

Each program fields one 15U and one 17U boys team, starting in 2027–28.
Those programs no longer field 15O or 16U Tier I teams; other Tier I age groups continue.
No residency limits, a separate DL championship, and 40–55 games with at least 60% against DL teams.
Players sign a season-long Player Agreement; signing opens January 15, 2027 for returning players.
Tier I AAA continues. USA Hockey calls the DL "one of several pathways."

Our analysis — not official

Some strong 15U and 17U players may move to DL programs, changing Tier I rosters at those ages.
Family fees and travel aren't published yet; each team must give a signed Team Fact Sheet first.
A DL badge isn't a ranking or a measure of fit, and it doesn't guarantee junior or NCAA opportunities.
